Wassily Kandinsky (Vasilij Vasiljevitj Kandinsky) was a Russian painter and art theorist raised in Odessa. From 1886 to 1892 he studied law and began an excellent academic career, but he broke off in 1896 and applied to Munich, where he attended Anton Azbé's school and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts with Franz von Stuck.
